The top of the tide seems to be the best but it's hit or miss right now. The bass were really good last week but as we all know the two best days for fishing were yesterday and tomorrow. You want to look for the obvious which means bait on the surface and gulls diving. After that you want to determine which baits to use. After a storm that churns up the ocean you want to use clams and if the bunker are running (or any bait fish) either live line something or use a plug that matches the bait. Try the south side of the jetties at the inlet, around the piers or rocks (in Bay Head), and rips. When you watch waves break there is usually a point where the stop. This is where there is a dip in the sand bar causing what swimmers know as a rip current. If you spend enough time out there you'll see them. That is where the bass like to hang out. Hopefully this helps a little. There is always more to learn and most of it comes with time out there. Good luck.
