SUBJECT: Potential threat to Fishing Grounds Off NY and NJ

Hi,

I'm a surfer and beach comber from LBI, NJ living in Rockaway Beach, NY. I am trying to get the word out about a proposed Liquid Natural Gas Terminal being proposed for the waters of New York Harbor. It will be a man made 13 acre Island.

From the above website "...facility, officially called “Safe Harbor Energy” by the company Atlantic Sea Island Group, is planned for 19 miles off the coast of New Jersey and 13 miles off the coast of New York. The same area is home to endangered species and is prime fishing grounds."

From what I have read, there will be a large exclusion zone where no boats will be allowed. And this Island is to be right off the coast, built of landfill and dumped right on an area comprising the areas only natural reef and a portion of NYC's old dumping grounds.

Sounds bad to me, and I thought you folks might like to know about it.
