They are still going to give blanket licences to charter boats, head boats, piers, etc. Only boat owners and surf fishermen are going to be taxed it seems. Better than nothing I guess. Jay

I guess they will still let the big boats put out gill nets, and still let other states get liscense to come in and put their nets out also.

Capt. Peg Leg (24.196.251.97) from NORTH CAROLINA says License
The bill that was passed made no provisions for any kind of blanket license for anyone. Each transaction for a one dollar seven day license will net the state about $0.55 after the transaction charges, How long do you think they will hold that price?

Jay/NC (12.174.137.143) from VIRGINIA says bill passed, but not finished
From the information I've gotten from Raleigh is that yes the bill is passed, and yes Capt Peg Leg is right that there are no blanket provisions, but there are still details to be worked out with the bill. My sources say that in the end there will indeed be blanket provisions, and also that lifetime sportsmans license holders will be granfathered. My lawmaker friends have been known to be wrong before so don't hold me to this! Jay

Why is this such a great thing? All it will do is provide more resourse officers to harass boaters so that they can make more money from BWI revenues? Don't fill me up with a bunch of *!@?!! about managing resources either. It is just another moneymaking venture that individuals have to pay for instead of big businessfooting the bill for depleated fish stocks. I have been fishing the NC shoreline for many years and have purchased my sportsmans liscense every year, but I never have seen the hoards of anglers applying the so called fishing pressure that all of you liscense supporters seem to have seen out there. Talk to me in ten years, TOM, When all this has done is add more resource officers to the payroll.

I actually think a few more blue lights on the water would be a good thing. And the best idea anyone has ever had is the creation of 'boating while impaired' tickets. Is the legal limit while boating half of what it is while driving? If it's not it should be. Differing opinions make the world go round. Jay

Well, I don't mind the blue lights, but last week I was out and was stopped three times. I have an older boat. The man only wanted to know if we had been drinking and never once asked if we were catching any fish or to see our "Catch." My point should have been that it doesn't seem like conservancy is the goal of these enforcers and having to pay a saltwater liscense on top of my sportsman's liscense to be harassed again and again chaps my @@!!*$!

Jay/NC (63.168.119.197) from NORTH CAROLINA says actually
In the end, if you have a sportsmans licence, you probably won't have to purchase a separate saltwater licence. Seems a little odd as our coastal waters are regulated separatly from the inland waters, but if they want to combine the WRC sportsman licence with the saltwater licence that's fine with me. I've had my lifetime sportsmans licence for 20 years. Best $100 my dad ever spent! Jay

Easy now folks,
I have just come back from some much needed vacation and it seams I may have struck a nerve with some(LOU)
Lou as far as enforcement, if the man checks you out, the bottom line is you better be right.Wildlife officers can check for a list of things if they become suspect, period.
As far as the fishing is concerned, I Look to States that have incresed their salwater fishing stocks.Florida.Texas, ect... more fish for everybody. The saltwater fishing liscenced was the KEY for fair representation. As far as being stopped 3 times in one day MAYBE they were thinking "their is a good boat operator" Or "you were catching some fish and they wanted to know your spot.
