Tons of guys with plenty of AVET, and most any other reel, experience. They will let you know how they hold up on the long range trips run down south on the left coast. If they last on a long range boat, we shouldn't have any problem with them around here.
Besides the AVETs I also like the Alutecnos reels. Seem to be great quallity and look reel nice. Until I decide to open up to other opportunities I'm sticking with my Tiagras for now. I'm comfortable with Shimano although I still have one eye on those Alutecnos'. Jay

Gerry, SFHP from VIRGINIA says Avet Reels
I currently own two Avet SX reels which I've been using in the surf. I've landed numerous drum and a few decent stripers so far with no problems.
I've had them modified by adding magnets to help prevent the spool spinning out of control on casts. Overall I am extremely pleased with Avet's quality.
