  16. Pass Wisher (208.21.193.53) from ALABAMA says Was hoping for the pass for christmas.
An update would be nice for those hoping the work would start this year. Capt. Kelly and Jim Smar were posting pass news here but haven't seen anything lately.

The website was nice but the info didn't seem very recent. Did I miss something?

  18. nix (216.146.30.72) from TEXAS says Latest on pass
    June 14, 1995

From: Galveston District, Corps of Engineers

    Subject: Permit No. 17763(02)

To: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department 4200 Smith School Road Austin, Texas 78744

    “Gentlemen:

Your request to modify Permit 17763(01) is approved. This modification provides authorization to perform maintenance dredging for a 10-year period and to utilize a new disposal area located on San Jose Island. The project is located in Cedar Bayou, along the border of Aransas and Calhoun Counties, Texas. The enclosed plans in 6 sheets will supersede the original permit plans. The time limit for completing the authorized work is December 31, 2005.”

I have copies of the permits for the past two dredgings of Cedar Bayou in ’87 and ’95. It seems that TP&W has decided to let the pass DIE. Even though they still hold the permit until 2005, there was no maintenance dredging to keep it open. Friends of Texas Coastal Passes has requested in writing to obtain the permit in order to open Cedar Bayou, as well as nearby Vinsons Slough. Stonewalling is occurring.

State law says: “A nonprofit corporation, fund, or foundation exempted from federal income taxes under Section 501 (c) (3), Internal Revenue Code of 1954, as amended (26 U.S.C. Sec. 501 (c) (3), or a political subdivision of the state may take sand, gravel, marl, shell, and mudshell from Cedar Bayou in Aransas County for the sole purpose of opening and reopening that passage between the Gulf of Mexico and Mesquite Bay."

Friends of Texas Coastal Passes several months ago requested the permit formally to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Only then did they find out that TP&W holds the permit until 2005. Now, the $64,000 question is, will TP&W let go of the permit so the pass can be opened? This is where it stands.

Is that all you do? Sit in the stands, point fingers and fling dung at conservation organizations and public departments? That other guy was right. You are a cheap imitatation of a journalist. You know nothing about this issue except childish note pasing. You should have been a girl.

  21. Ranger Bob from TEXAS says Thanks for the info Tom.

  22. lynn (65.90.145.184) from TEXAS says tom the whole story
Will Tom I guess you will get ticked off at me again but so be it.The truth of the matter is this. TPW has not nor never has decided as you say to let Cedar Bayou die. They simply did not have the money to preform the maintenance on Cedar Bayou. They and I refer to the leaders in TPW did not place Cedar Bayou in the budget, therefore no money. I to have a copy of the permit. I am working on putting together packages that will be sent to all parties concerned. By the way EJ I will be sending you a package and you may print what ever you think that your readers would like to know. Sorry Tom but after your letter you sent to me you will have to wait and read about it in the news papers. As far as Friends of Coastal passes, they don't want the permit nor do Save Cedar Bayou Inc. Neither one of us wants the liability. TPW has the right to hang on to the permit, however I have a real good feeling that they will transfer the permit, to who, will you will just have to wait and see. They are not stonewalling anybody. You need to understand how things work around here in the loop, which you seem to be out of. This coming year you will see things start to happen, so just set back Tom relax and watch as it unfolds.
