  1. Troutman (151.123.128.250) from TEXAS says Shallow
There's nothing out there that can compare to a Trans Cat!!! Shallow, dry and can handle rough h20. No doubt.

  2. stew1tx (205.188.117.6) from TEXAS says What Troutman said....
Uhhhhhh, that about sums it up. Just as shallow, floating and running, as a RFL, but faster, more fuel efficient and MUCH more smooth. BUT, you can not go wrong with any of the big names like Shoalwater, Flats Cat, Shallow Sport, Ultra Cat or any of the other common flats boats manufacturers out there now. Some use better materials than others, some will do some things better than others but when it is said and done, make you a list of criteria what you want your boat to do and ride in them all. Rate each boat according to how you feel it performed. My list was soemthing like this, in order of importance, Shallowest draft at rest, speed, draft at speed, ability to handle rougher water, size (width), fishability, efficiency and the list goes on. What I came up with what worked best for me is the Tran Cat. If you ever need to check out one and will be around when I am in a tournament in your area or while I am down fishing around Corpus, I will be happy to let ya walk around, test ride and if time go fishing. There is no way to really assess the fishability and compatability without trying it as you would fish it, remember that.

  3. J.Dean (70.112.155.80) from TEXAS says Ibis and Curlew
Don't overlook the Ibis and Curlew while shopping, I personally know they will go as shallow as anything out there. And they are built to last forever.

    I agree with quote above.

Every thing is relative to your needs.

Dont overlook the SouthShores. 10 models to choose from. 7 shallow water hulls 17' to 26' with 6.5' to 9.4' beams with 6" to 9" inch true standing drafts. Even the 23 and 26 come with 6" or 9" true standing drafts,,,,, 2 competition hulls 24' & 20' up to 70 or more miles an hour,,,,, 1 offshore 27' single or twin engines

With the big bays you have down there go with a multi purpose rig. Shallow and Rough Water All in One Boat SouthShores THE Most Versatile Hulls on The Market

kayak! I fish in 2" of water with mine all the time! It'll git up in about 2 1/2 to 3" depending on how much I have in my cooler!

Like when it comes to so many things...God Bless Texas. What a great state this is and it doesn't stop with the number of custom made flats boats made right here in the State.

To be honest,it really comes down to personal choice. I personally ended up with a Trans Cat after researching really hard. I was set on a Majek for the longest time but didn't like the way it skid on turns. But, there newest boat looks great. I think it is called an illusion. There 25 foot redfish line is one really fine looking boat and probably the most perfect boat for a POC guide.

In the POC area, Mowdy's are still great all around boats, so is the Haynie Big Foot, Explorer, Marshall, El Pescador and Shoalwater just to name a few.

But, for shallow water only, Majeks, Tran Cat, Ultra Cat, Dargel, Flats Cat, Shallow Sport, Shoalwater Cat (to name a few) are all good boats.

Flats Cat all the rest suck!!

  9. Baywolf (72.178.160.73) from TEXAS says Don't forget a custom build, I needed my answer to that same question.
I had a custom Baywolf Boat designed & built. It was specifically made to draft 4 1/2" at rest, launch instantlly in a a hole shot, and blueprinted with racing chines and a tunnel. This boat is lighter than a Shallowsport and a Dargel, and handles like a sportscar.

I still have the mould and I have a catamaran insert being made, so I can make an even more crazy bay boat.

Check it out on YouTube as "Baywolf Boat", I uploaded 3 videos.

  11. Rancher (69.19.14.30) from TEXAS says Shallow Boat Selections
Selecting a shallow running bay boat is like selecting flavors of your favorite ice cream. I like the ones mentioned here. The old Laguna Madre standby is the ShallowSport. Hard to beat. We have a 22' TranSport and meets the needs for Family outings and can handle very rough conditions and still get us shallow enough depending on tides. My nephew recently purchased a Curlew that was originally designed for extremely shallow running and fly fishing. It runs the back bays and areas less than a foot of water reasonably well. It also is easy to push with a push pole looking for redfish. Nice technology but would be uneasy running the bigger bays and really rough conditions. Identify the type of bays and conditions you want to fish and go shop from there.

  12. bobby d (198.68.206.196) from TEXAS says scatcat
the all new 22' scat cat is the best riding & shallowest dryest, full tunnel out there.i seen one at coastal offshore in corpus.you need to go by and see it take a ride i did it was the best.

  13. greengofishing (69.92.5.108) from TEXAS says Majek
I personally run a 21' Majek redfish line and fish nine mile hole where I have never seen any other brand of boat except shallowsport and airboats! My boat is rigged with a Yamaha HPDI TRP lower unit and I go places where other boat owners would dare follow. I don't know about flats cat, but I can tell you that I've never seen any in the shallowest most unforgiving bay on the Texas coast. I have got up in water that the boat wasn't even floating in. I happened to shut down on a day when the wind was really blowing and under estimated the depth of the water due to the clarity and the boat sucked up to the bottom. I blew sand and mud in the air for a few seconds before the prop grabbed and the boat shot out like a missle. Granted, it isn't smooth in heavy chop. But I dare say that the flats cat or any shallow bay boat wouldn't handle chop. And if you have a good shallow running boat, who cares. You can hug the shore line running to your destination while everyone else is taking a beating. Majek is the boat that all others are compare to.

  15. Arnold (67.79.109.245) from TEXAS says best shallow boat
I found the best shallow boat in Texas. It is made in San Benito Texas and it out performs any boat out there. I have been in the Dargal, Baymaster, Cat, and shallow sport. The best is the Cougarmarineusa.com Web site. I have compared with performance in the water on depth, planning, drift, fuel millage, workmanship, material, warrenty, motor and service. I am telling you that if you want a custom boat at a better price and better quality. This is the place. By the way I am the first person to buy the 180 Baydrifter High Performance. Do not go buy until you shop around. P.S. I shopped around with a serious intent to buy for 14 months. The great thing is it gets better gas millage then any motor and the warrent is outstanding.

  16. catch23 (150.113.8.138) from TEXAS says What is the best shallow water fishing boat?????
Chief, Ive been on the water fishing since I could barely keep my chest above the waves while wade fishing with my folks in the Baffin area, a total of over 35 years and I am 40. I have fished just about every flavor of boat that ever soaked in those waters. From friends and family, to guides, and a few boats of my own. Majeks, Gulf Coast, Black Jack, Pathfinder, Skeeter Bay, Boston Whaler, Scout 192 (my current rig), just to name a few. I will tell you this. There is no "best bay boat" my friend. There are things that I have loved and hated about every single rig I have ever fished. Some more that others. Get out there, ride in boats in the waters and conditions you will fish in. That is the only way you will find "the best bay boat" for YOU. Not by reading these forums full of guys that say my boat is the best and "all the rest suck"!

  17. KevinBlagg (108.64.167.241) from FLORIDA says Flats Boat
Can anyone tell me who makes a flats boat that has a name shallow water on the side, i cannot find it anywhere, thanks for some help.

  18. Lori (75.9.223.239) from TEXAS says Shallow water fishing/pleasure boat
Do any of you know of a shallow water pleasure/fishing boat on the market. The boat will mainly be used on Copano Bay. Pleasure, fishing, sightseeing, trips to Rockport for dinner? Any advice will be helpful.

    Thanks

  19. jay friedman (70.239.167.161) from ALABAMA says mid coast cats
group,i have owned a majek 20 v for 15 years. i fish out of port a. my ideal boat is 20 to 22', handle the open chop and run fairly shallow. i wade fish. the attributes i look for are:

    1) a vhull performance in the ugly chop 2) run reasonably shallow (they all do with a jack plate) 3) wide open center console with a nice beam. 4) clean uncluttered lines.

i am leaning to a trans cat or a shallow sport cat boat. i saw a boat with "shallow cat" on the hull with a t top that looked nice. i like the new cats with the hulls "v'd" like the trans sport svt.

any thoughts from out there? the majek 20v is about to die....

    thanks. jay
