SUBJECT: Ethanol % Content in Gas & Potential Effects on Boat Motors

Submitted by Triumph (98.196.164.32) from TEXAS on

If you haven't heard already, the govt. has postoned a move to make all gasoline available at pumps with up to 15% ethanol content, a potentially tragic move for us boat owners. I am particularly 'IN TUNE' to this political movement since I recently had to replace a 4 yr. old OB Evinrude engine with a brand new one, due to a piston thrown by the effects of moisture build-up that my tech determined was caused by ethanol in gas. This occurred EVEN THOUGH I took meticulous care of the old engine with per-trip flushes, gas treatment additives, and anything else a boat owner can do other than siphoning.

Does ANYONE know of a movement and/or stance by CCA or any other functioning group that is following the moves of our govt. on this very important issue? Obviously it can have long-term debilitating effects on not just our boats, but ATVs, generators, weed-eaters and ANY other gas-powered engine!

What does 15% ethynol have to do with conservation? That's your answer.

  2. Thompson Clyde (70.41.96.38) from Mexico says Conservation?
What does a summer - long kill tournament (win a boat/motor/trailer) have to do with conservation?

Ask some body that gives a flying fark. I'm not a member. Just saying.

You stated "due to a piston thrown by the effects of moisture build-up that my tech determined was caused by ethanol in gas."

You're kidding right? Your tech lied to you. If anything, ethynol removes moisture from your fuel system.
