Lazaretto Creek From: Mark (12.13.155.253), GEORGIA
Glad you had such a good day at Lazaretto. Here's a tip. Do not leave any valuables of any kind in sight at that boat ramp, and it doesn't hurt to have a stock stereo. I know a lot of people who have their trucks broken into there. A lot.

As to the skiffs, I think that's just a result of easy credit and cheap boats. Mostly they just don't know better, and LC is the easiest way to get from Wassau to Tybee or the river channel.

The anti-skiff bigotry hurts my self-esteem From: Jason Pierce (68.220.24.14), GEORGIA
I may sue!

Just messing with you, um, gentlemen. I've always wanted to try in that area at the mouth of Lazaretto. I've heard good things and this only adds to it. I did catch an over slot red and a ton of sharks (which is what we were aiming for) one time this summer at the jetties though.

To add: I saw some black fellers pull up to the back side of the jetties that day, get out, and break out the cane poles. That's right, cane poles at the ocean. They say that's how you catch a sheephead and they were doing it.

While fishing at the hole in the wall there at the jetty, I had a huge boat come through our lines and d@mn near flip my beloved skiff. I cussed that SOB and still get pi$$ed to think about it. If I'd had a brick it would have landed in the pilot house for sure. Point being, people do seem to lose their heads over there when it comes to manners. I don't know why!

Poor manners From: Capt. Chris O'Neill (207.69.138.141), GEORGIA
I certainly have nothing against skiffs. I have owned them myself. It just seemed that day that every turd that day had a small skiff type boat. Where I'm from, you just load up your best lure with the most treble hooks and heave it toward the moving target. Some times you get lucky and catch an ear. I also got the word from a buddy to be extemely careful at that ramp with vehicle security. Sterilize the truck prior to departing the area. Do our tax dollars not cover the policing of that particular area of town??? With the local population there, it would seem contrary to regular crime. Hope to see everyone on the water. I am taking a guy to Laz creek this weekend. Does anyone know where I can get shrimp very early in the morning up there. Bull river said he opens at 0800, and Hogans at 0700. The low water is nineish, and I wanted to get a couple hours of outgoing if possible.

Try Bona Bella. I want to say they open at 0600. I thought the same for Hogan's, but if they say 0700, oh well. Ask Savannah Bend also...their little bait shack might open earlier too.

ramp From: JP again (68.220.57.6), GEORGIA
Can't vouch for the crime at the ramp personally, but I have always heard that tends to happen. They did arrest a local there a year or two ago though, but the reputation lives on. Never a bad idea to remove any reason for somebody to break in.

If I'm not mistaken, that's just outside the jurisdiction for the Tybee PD, by mere yards. That would make it at the very end of the city/county beat. In other words, you're not likely to have a large police presence there.

You could always phone in a tip that you spotted some low-lifes looking into trucks. Only if you really saw that, of course.

Bait Suggestion From: Mark (12.13.155.253), GEORGIA
Chris,

Try Adams for bait. He is at the Thunderbolt boat ramp, which is behind Savannah Bend marina.

He opens early.

thanks From: Capt. Chris O'Neill (192.100.70.98), GEORGIA
Called Adams, they open at 0600 on Saturday. The gentleman said he had plenty of bait and the fish were biting! If thats not great marketing, nothing is. Thanks for the tip.
