Doa From: Mack (65.5.187.199), GEORGIA Jim, Thanks for the informative reports. Sounds like you and Evelyn are enjoying the time you spend together. Sounds like you are having good luck too. Those Speckled Trout sure make a nice dinner. You sound like that DOA is the ticket. Can you tell me what size (quarter or half ounce) what color, and if you are fishing it under a Cajun Thunder rig or just how you manage to catch all those fish with it. I would like to try one on my next trip down to the Village Creek area around St.Simons. Thanks for any info you are willing to share. Mack
Greeting From: Ron Matthews (68.220.7.232), GEORGIA Thanks for introducing youself and you wife to us 11/20/04 at Skidaway launch. We will try you ideas and places. Keep wetting you hook, Ron
DOA Shrimp Technique From: James Clausen (64.12.116.138), GEORGIA Mack,
I just looked up the report on how we do this.
"There is no dark secret to using the DOA shrimp lures. We use 8# moss green line from Bass Pro, Excel Brand, tied directly to the bait on a spinning rod.
We cast it up current and allow it to drift back down the oyster rake. They will get hung up in the oysters some times but we just use the trolling motor and go over where it is hung and lift it out. One advantage to trolling motor fishing. When a trout or red wants that lure you will have no doubt that he is there. After a fish is on the line we reel him in as fast as possible and bounce him into the boat. We do sometimes use a shrimp spray, cannot say that that helps all that much.
If you are local send me your telephone number in an E/mail or just E/mail me and we can talk more if you want.
Jim
Doa From: Mack (65.5.187.199), GEORGIA Thanks Jim. I live in Gainesville, Ga., but grew up in Glynn County and that's where I go back to do my saltwater fishing. I live on Lanier and lately we've been having some pretty good luck catching 8 to 15 lb. Stripers on topwater. Talk about a freight train,LOL, those linesides can do some pulling. I think I understand now that you've responded, how to fish that DOA. It's a good bit different than the jighead and grub that we usually throw. It sure might be good as a topwater bait too. I've just thrown it a few times, but you can get a lot of action with it on top. I fish with 8# flourocarbon on just about all my rigs, so I think it'll work OK and I know about those rakes. They got a lot of my jigs till I bought a trolling motor. Thanks for your help and keep those reports coming. I envy all you folks down on the coast as you never know what you may hook up with down there. Good Luck
