N.Y. License From: Bill K (98.221.76.185), NEW JERSEY
Hi Jim: Since you were fishing on the N.Y. side, did you have to buy a license? I haven't done my research on the N.Y. license issue but I've heard some things that make me wonder what the regulation will be or are. Does the boat register for a license or does each person aboard a private boat need one? Thanks for any help. I'm going to search a few sites to see if it's posted.

Oh yeah, we saw the Brooklyn off the ammo pier on Saturday chasing blues on the surface. I know you like those "gator" spoons but I still prefer the AVA's. I like the single hooks.

License Info. From: Bill K (98.221.76.185), NEW JERSEY
I answered my own questions about who needs a N.Y. license. This will give more information. Click on the marine fishing regulations. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7755.html

It really sucks that fishermen need a license (at full price) to fish from Oct. 1 - Dec. 31 and then buy a new one on Jan. 1st for the rest of the year for the same fee.

NY License From: Jim Balicki (71.187.5.30), NEW JERSEY
I have one; $15 for 3 months. Hopefully I will get to use it again, and even again. BTW, what about the patrons on an NJ partyboat? Are they somehow covered if the captain moves the boat across the "line"? I bet the fares on the Belmar boat did not expect to be fishing in NY, but at times they were over the "line". Who even keeps track of the "line" when you are chasing birds?

Party Boat License From: Bill K (98.221.76.185), NEW JERSEY
The way I read the regulations, my conclusion is that the party boats will have to pay a marine license and a recreational license as well to the tune of $650.00. Do you suppose the customers will have to pay more each time they board a party boat? Yes! Someone has to pay to offset the cost of the licenses.

If you have a private boat, you will have to make sure that everyone aboard your vessel has a license. Since private boats are not charter or party boats they won't have to pay the $650.

Question......Where, exactly, is the state line between N.Y. and New Jersey on the Hudson River. If I fish for stripers in the Hudson off Bayonne or Jersey City, where exactly do I cross the N.Y./N.J. line. If I fish from a boat in the Arthur Kill between Perth Amboy and Staten Island for stripers, where is the state line?

Too many questions.....I'll have to ask Al Ristori.

NJ/NY line in Raritan Bay From: Jim Balicki (71.187.5.30), NEW JERSEY
At one of the winter shows a few years ago, I bought a chart entitled "Capatain Segull's Sportfishing Chart -- New York Harbor, NY/Raritan Bay, NJ". The green line in the middle is desiginated "approximate location of state line boundary". The line intersects buoy 12 in the Reach Channel. So, for the channel, W of 12 is NY, E of 12 is NJ. Most of the area shown as Romer Shoal is in NJ, but the ligthouse itself is in NY. Of course, what would really be helpful would be uniform licensing and uniform regulations for the entire Raritan Bay, similar to that for the freshwater portion of the Deleware River.
