Ahoy there one and all!!

I still get the jitters the night before the season opens! Today the Salmon Season opened with a beautiful sunrise and the docks were buzzing with excitement!!!!! Everyone was full of anticipation and surprised at how warm it was so early in the morning. With the expectation of there being a great weather day, everyone was smearing a thick layer of sunscreen over themselves as it looked like it was going to be a sunny bright day. And BOY WAS IT A GREAT DAY- The sun was out and the ocean was flat calm!

The Riptide left the harbor at 6 am on the dot! First one to pull out! Everyone was rigging up anticipating a long run down to Pigeon Point. Passengers were talking old fish stories and sharing some new ideas to possibly try in hopes of bagging the big one of the day! The ocean was calm and the run down smooth.

When I pulled back on the throttle to a trolling speed, everyone put in and we did not have to wait long for "instant gratification!" This was a shrimp and anchovies bite so the fish came in groups! First one, then another rod pumping and everyone watching the guys playing their fish and I kept having to tell people to get the fish hanging on their rod!!

The morning was full of these multiple hookups! We landed a lot of them and lost a few and also had to release a few! The weather cooperated with our guests stripping down to tee-shirts and working up a sweat!! As the morning progressed the fishing slowed down to a few singles. As the noon hour approached we started to hook a few more fish and we finally pulled in the lines at 2 PM for the sunny ride back to the dock!

When the fish were cleaned and counted we ended up with 20 fish up to 15 lbs for 14 anglers!!!!

Everyone went home with a fish for dinner and I am sure a good night sleep!

We are off and running and it looks like a good season ahead!

Till next report Tight lines one and all! Thanks for listening!
