Report:
Had the truck packed and "Jr" got right up, arrived at the PBFBridge about 6:30 am (Hi Capt John ;-) Got 2 dozen live shrimp and the usual good advise, where to fish them! (DEEP!) Saw LOTS of tiny LYs and other minnows on top getting "busted" by the occasional spanish. "Jr" tried a jig, I went with the shrimp. That was the ticket, had a nice fat 12" Mangrove Snapper, 4 good sized white trout and 3 keeper specks before "Jr" put a spanish on the deck. Changed his jig over to a spoon (1/2 oz Sidewinder)and that got results! He quickly caught 4 keeper spanish, and lost several more (last one took the spoon :-(
By then the incoming tide had slackened (and so had the bottom bite). He held the bottom rig while I tied a Gotcha plug on his rig. Finishing the knots, I looked up just in time to see him "bow up" with a nice fish. He laughed thinking it was hung on the piling "but it started swimming off". That flounder looked as big as a Welcome Mat, down in that pretty green water. Wasn't quite that big in the net though, but 2# is sure fine eating! He caught several more spanish on the Gotcha while I finished off the shrimp. LUNCH BREAK!
The tide had started falling out pretty well, backed by that fine SE breeze. Almost every piling on the "new" bridge had a wad of minnows around it getting terrorized by marauding macks. "Jr" got 6 more spanish while I cleaned the rest. (Thought I'd NEVER get through ;-) He quit when what WOULD have been our 17th chomped thru that 40# flouro leader.
Wheww! We gotta do that again, soon!
