Report:
On Thursday I ran for Tuna. We had four fishermen on
the boat. Arrived at the ramp to find the parking lot empty. Left
the HMB at about 5:45 AM and headed towards the 601. Water was calm
with about a 6 foot swell, nicely spaced. Stopped short of the 601
at 37.03 and 122.47. Began trolling towards the 601, after about a
half hour bang, 1st fish, about 20-25 lbs (our smallest fish of the
day). Continues towards the 601, picking up another fish, them a
double, but one came unbuttoned at color. Only one other boat in
sight, a 35-40 ft. Grand Banks, couldn't raise anyone on the radio.
Well, as were headed towards the center of the 601 we put another
fish on the boat, a 40 lber. We see the Grand Banks about a mile
away, and they are stopped, we start trolling towards them and
whammo, a triple, but also a tangle, one line got sawed off ,and one
came loose, but we did land one. From there we just kept trolling
back and forth, with the Grand Banks doing the same, using each other
as landmarks. By about 2 PM we had 8 in the box and we began
trolling towards our original numbers. When we got there two of the
crew were asleep, Mark decided to let them sleep for another 10
minutes, and then start running in. Well about 7 minutes later one
pole goes off, I run back to grab it, and notice that all four rear
poles are screaming, a Quad. I start yelling and our two sleepers
wake up and start stumbling (half asleep still) towards the back of
the boat. We now have four fish on, one guy, get's his to the boat
first, but no one is there to gaff, and we can't lay a pole down or
we'll end up with a BFT (big f***king tangle). He finally swings
his fish into the boat, and helps gaff the others. We landed a quad
and with 12 fish had more than enough. What a day! There were a few
jumpers around, and almost ever time we'd see one, we'd hook up
within a minute or two.
