Report:
My buddy Ed and I were in a fluke tournament and left the dock at 6am. Headed to 3904, 7509 and were knee deep in the short flounder. After about 20 shorts we made the move to 14 ft lighthouse to find bigger fish. We drifted with the incoming tide away from the lighthouse into the deeper water and nothing. Two drifts later we gave up and headed to the west side of the lighthouse where I had been doing good for the past two weeks. We made several drifts there and came up empty. The party boats gathered there for a little while after we left and they even split up. The croakers that were there previosly weren't even there. Whatever was holding the fish there before moved on. I decided to move back to the east side of the channel. I went to the 16 buoy and fought thru the slack tide. When the tide finally changed all he!! broke loose. Both of us were using 2 rods and there were times when all four rods had fish on at the same time. I couldn't even guess how many fish came into the boat but we ended up with 10 keepers. The biggest was caught by Eddie and weighed in at just over three pounds. I called the Marina to find out what was the biggest fish and was told a 2 lber was the winner so far. We hated to leave the fish biting but thought we might have a chance at the purse. We made the 4PM deadline by 10 minutes and won the tournament. What a great day on the bay. The sharks and skates were out today and they took the place of the blues and croakers. We only caught 5 croakers and 3 blues. I heard the croakers were in thick at the 60 ft slough. The fluke were so aggresive today I had one chase my bait 10 feet off the bottom and hit me on the way up when I was checking my bait. I couldn't make sunday fishing because of a family function :(
