# 41768: Subject: Monterey, California

Submitted by Deadly Dave (ip 206.170.2.209)

Water Temperature: 60
Water Clarity: Clear, blue
Seas: 4-6 ft
Weather: Foggy, light wind, no sun all day
Fishing_for: albacore tuna
Boat: Checkmate
captain: Tinker

Report:
Checkmate (Chris' Fishing) left Fisherman's Wharf (10-1)in Monterey with 15 anglers and a full load of small sardines (3-4") for the tuna grounds offshore from Pt. Sur. Boat ended up with about 30 albacore ranging in size from 15-30 lbs.

Many fish lost to tangles and burned off lines. About 2/3 novices and 1/3 experienced anglers. Some experienced anglers caught about 5 fish. Small bait worked best with 20 lb test line, size 4 or 2 live bait hooks and 1/4 oz sliding egg sinker. Heavier line of 30 lb and bigger hooks, 1/0 didn't get very many bites. No troll fish caught, all on live bait with 1 or 2 on megabait iron.

A private boat with 3 'pros' on board fishing the same area had a school of albacore locked onto their rods for several hours.

Good Luck, Deadly Dave
