Report:
The weather reports were calling for gale warnings but we thought we would take a look at it anyway. Got out of the Des Moines marina at 7:30 and it was flat calm. With these nice conditions we decided to run up to Dolphin Point. Fished in 150' of water right off the ferry dock and my buddy nailed a nice 8# Blackmouth within about 30 minutes. A lot of shakers and fish we had to measure in the next couple of hours but couldn't get another legal one. By about 11 the wind started to blow, the tide changed and the fish quit so we decided to head back to check the crab pots.
Good thing we left when we did because by the time we had pulled all the pots ( 8 nice keepers )it was howling and we were banging around in 3-5' steep chop.Even getting into the slip in the marina was a bit of a chore with this wind.
Fished the usual gear for me: 2-3oz. flourescent lead , 8' leader and plug cut red label herring.
All in all a good day.
