# 45057: Subject: Gulf of Mexico, Submitted by Speck-Tacular (ip 216.106.45.247)
Water Temperature: N/a Report: Guided Pete Duris and his friend and son on his 22 shamrock yesterday out of venice, la and I knew it would be a little tough fishing with a 15-20 knot steady breeze gusting to 25 out the west for some offshore fishing. Luckily there is a spot that is slightly protected by south west pass on a west wind within 3 miles of shore and we moseyed our way out in a solid 3 foot chop with about a 4 second period. Nasty conditions but fishable in that one little area. It wasn't a day where you target big snapper but one where you tie up and hold on and take what you can get and that ended up being 16-20 inch red snapper and 5-8 pound mangroves. Pretty steady action on them about 120 feet dowm with whole pogies along with some big jack crevelles busting the party. We also released one undersized cobia and one cobia about 40 pounds although he released himself at the boat. Fish were actively biting all day but the wind and current made it hard to feel the bites. Ended the day with 16 nice fat red snapper and 7 good mangrove snapper. I am a guide that goes on your boat to help you fish offshore Venice. To add a remark to this report click here.
