Report:
Got great tuna reports on Sat and decided to do an overnighter south instead of east. Ran 56 miles and anchored off the coast of Delaware if you can believe that. The area we fished in; 19 fathom lump, hot dog, sausage lump, massey's canyon etc. are loaded with all species of tuna. Picked up mahis of 6 and 18 lbs. before the bite was on at 5AM. I boated a #70 YFT then my son (age 11) hooked what turned out to be a #140 BFT. After four trips around the boat and a fight lasting more than an hour we got it through the tuna door. I stopped chunking during the fight and we lost the school but didn't care.
I looked around at the magic hour and most of the boats I saw were hooked up. Radio reports included YFT, BFT, LFT, and mahi. It seemed everyone caught something on the chunk and nothing on the troll. Water was dark blue and gin clear.
If you have the range this is the place to go.
