Report:
After a long six months of building a new home and outfitting a new boat, it was nice to get back out. The "FISH ON!" is gone and a 29' Phoenix with the name CARTAYNIC was christened today. What a beautiful day it was. I figured I would do something easy on the first trip until I build up some confidence in the new boat, so we opted for an inshore bottom fishing trip. We started in 70' of water off of Bay Head and after 15 minutes of drifting I hooked something big on a sand-eel / squid combo. After a 30 minute battle on 12 pound test, a 32 pound "cow-nose-ray" was netted weighed and released. What a brute!!!!!!! We managed to box 3 fluke up to 18" and a few sea bass in the next 2 hours. We also released lots of shorts, and sea robbins. The drift died around 11 am so we decided to head to the Sea girt Reef. We did nothing for the next hour. Another move to 45' in front of The Spring Lake Hotel was well worth it. In the next two hours we boated 25 croakers, 20 weakfish between 2-5 pounds, (not one short) a few cocktail blues, plus some robbins and skates. We left for home around 2 with a cooler full of fish. A great day on the water with my father and my new boat. Maybe next week we will head for the Mud-Hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TIGHT LINES.............BRI
