Report:
Ahoy there one and all!
Today was a day all about big salmon! We ran out towards the Farallone Islands and fortunately it was early and the winds & seas were not bad. But when we stopped it was rolley and foggie! This is typical shrimp fishing! You watch the boat next to you hook up 5 fish and you just sit there. Then it is our turn with five or so rods getting hit and pumping like mad with these big bomber Salmon! Sometimes we get them all and sometimes we loose them all! and all combinations in between with a few silvers released to spice up the mix.
We ended up losing more than we landed today. But when it was time to leave we had 24 whoppers for 17 passengers and the biggest fish landed (we had other bigger fish in but not able to get them to the boat) was 27 lbs!
This shrimp fishing can be exciting and frustrating!! Watching your rod double over with a fish and by time you throw your sandwich in the air and grab your rod it is gone!! Only to set it up again and turn around for a sip of your drink to wash down the bite of sandwich still in your mouth and have your rod take off again!! This time he continues to peel out line and it feels like you have hooked onto the head of a moose who is galloping away! Working him back and wishing you could ease the pain in your shoulder from fighting this big fish! Asking the Captain to please back the boat up to the fish so you don't have to work so hard and watching him laugh and enjoy your agony! After netting the moose and collapsing against the rail with the thoughts of whether you could have lasted any longer before going to your knees and begging for someone to help! and then the pride of admiring the big fish thrashing as the deckhand is trying to close the lid and sit on the fish box to keep that hog in!
Now with renewed vigor you put your rod back out for your second fish and wondering if the next one will be your personal best!
There were many bests today!
So don't delay!
Call Smitty today!
