Report: Left a little late on Sat morning for little Fishtails with an offshore for the Beacher brothers, Drs. Beacher, Beacher, and Beacher, and, after experiencing heavy fog and broadside waves for the entire trip across the sound,(we left from Westerly, R.I.), we caught a 3 degree temp break at Southern end of Butterfish Hole in about 35 fathoms. Dropped in our lines and as the mate was clipping the last line to the rigger, it was hit by something large. As the line was peeling and peeling, I tightened the drag ever so slightly, and "snap". One bird and one green tuna clone-gone. We got hit the same way a little later on the same set-up ( I had not readjusted the drag), with the same results. The second hit was a very large bluefin, as we saw the strike. We ended up with 2 bluefin which were about 30 pounds each, 4 albies, and a skipjack. The weather was great 25 miles offshore, but as soon as we hit Montauk Point, the trip across the sound was rough and foggy.
