    Report:
FISH CALL CHARTERS January 2004 Welcome all! I am going to try to send you a report each month (New Year's Resolution). I'll try to keep it short but interesting. As you know Winter fishing is some of my favorite. The water is crystal clear and the reds are schooled up on the shallow flats which adds up to awesome sight casting! Hyland Furniss and girlfriend had a great day on 1/2 catching and releasing 21 real nice reds! I had the English family the next day. This included dad Lou, son Addison, and daughter Emily. They caught and released 18 big redfish. Seven year-old Emily was even casting and hooking her own fish by the end of the day! We caught one red with 34 spots and then another one with 79 spots!! Jason King from my high school hired me the next day, and we did real good releasing 10 big redfish! Then I took my family to Disney for a week! What a blast with a 2 year-old! We returned to some awfully COLD weather and got back to fishing on the weekend of the 17th. Scott & Ralston Smith braved the weather and managed to land 4 real nice redfish. The next day was also not a good weather day, but Bill Lee and kids went for it. They did great for the windy conditions landing 7 nice redfish. Don Brown and friend fished with for two days in a row landing around 20 reds in some icy cold conditions. The weather finally warmed up when Larry Reed and buddies came to town. They had a blast catching and releasing 12 redfish plus they let me catch one that was 13 pounds!! The next day my clients, Spencer and Karl, were thinking of backing out due to the cold, but I convinced them that we would stay real close and still catch fish. One of them said, "No self-respecting fish will bite in this cold. Do you offer a no catch - no pay policy?" I said sure, it is called DOUBLE OR NOTHING! They wouldn't take me up on it and good thing because we landed a red about 15 minutes later! They ended up catching and releasing 13 real nice reds. The next day I had a several boat trip with Ashley, Larry, and Todd from the church group on my boat. They also had a great trip catching and releasing 17 real nice reds including the largest of the group trip at 11 pounds! Then the weather man got it real wrong causing no fishing for several days. They were calling for sunny and 71°, but got rain, wind and a high of 42°. How can they be so wrong? That canceled some things until the last weekend of the month when I took some of the Gerald's Tires crew. This time it was Scott, Matt, and Harden (?). We had trouble getting the fish to eat on the first day but still managed 6 real nice reds including the largest of the year on the "FISH CALL", a 34" 14 pounder!! Matt caught this one and if you know Matt, he will not let you forget it! The next day, the weather was much better and landed 12 real nice reds. The water is still very cold (mid forties) and the fish slow, but with the right presentation will still eat. As soon as we get a few warm days in a row, these fish are going to eat like MAD! I still have plenty of February dates available so call soon to reserve yours. The "FISH CALL" is still for sale if you know anyone interested. See ya' next month. Tight lines....... Cheers, Capt.
