Water Temperature: 54 Water Clarity: Clear Seas: 0-omigod! Weather: This is a multiple day report just to let ya'll know what is and isn't happening in Crystal River Fishing_for: Sheepshead Boat: Whopper Stopper captain: Ken Roy
Report: Not a heck of a lot is going on unless you run 35 miles offshore which I refuse to do, especially in winter.
Inshore wrecks and rocks in 15-30' are loaded with spawning Sheepshead this month along with Redfish and Black Drum. We haven't caught a Sheepshead this year much above 12#. Year before last we caught one that weighed 14-10 and several close to 14#.
By mid-March, weather permitting, fishing will bust wide open with Cobia, Kingfish, Grouper, Spanish Mackerel biting your prop. Until then, Sheepshead are my only game outside but then, Sheepshead are the finest tasting of all our fish.
Within a week or so I'll be running more and more Freshwater fishing trips where we'll catch Largemouth Bass, Redfish, Sheepshead, Jack Crevalle, and Ladyfish.
Tarpon will show up in April. Tarpon will be a serious target for me in April, May and June. In June I'll start "MONSTER FISHING" where I target Jewfish and large Sharks. Of course, Grouper and Cobia will be caught every day, April through September.
Take a look at the two pics I am enclosing to see what a difference a day makes. One day it is short sleeved shirt weather and the next it is cold.
