Report: 5 buddies and myself entered the annual surf fishing tournament in bethany beach, deleware. we arrived the afternoon of the 7th and decided to get a little practice in before the showdown. we were catching plenty of sharks, skates puffer, and small blues. that night was beautiful; warm, winds calm, and the ocean mist was in the air. around midnight it started to thunderstorm. by morning the temperature had dropped 20 degrees and there was and steady 35 mile and hour gust that sent the waves crashing into the surf. twelve ounce weights we had to use could'nt keep the rigs out in the water that by the way was only about 10' out cause the wind would blow your bait and hook litteraly back at you. the two guys next to us had gotten a 19" blue that he released and got the extra point. that twenty points very well may have won the tournament and the calcutta (biggest blue) contest that pays 950 bucks! we did decide to screw the tourney and drove down to the indian river inlet and caught some nice size sea bass, taug, and shad. it still was a nice trip all in all. i am going to go back in a couple of weeks and try the surf again.
