Report:
1st off just was wondering if people still post fishing reports on here cuz i dun see as many as i used to back in the days like when Sheepshead Bay boats were gettin blasted for the mates fishing.. etc.. but was jus curious.. dun see as many reports.. but ne wayz now to my report
Went night fishing on the Brooklyn VI.. read the fishing report in the paper that day and they said the bluefishing was spectacular so i decided to give it a shot.. Boat left around 7:15 .. headed out jus a lil bit and they started jigging for the blues under the birds.. a few ppl caught some blues here but not many.. i think 1 keeper bass was also caught.
After the sun went down we all took the jigs off and headed offshore to 17 fathoms. 1st stop produced a few fish .. id say about 10.. maybe less (i caught 3 sand sharks) .. Then around 12:00 captain decides to move and try a new spot not too far away.. At this spot there was lots more fish.. if you knew wat u were doing the fish were hittin like crazy.. i was catching fish after fish.. ended the trip with 9 bluefish, with the 9th fish being the pool fish of 13 lbs!
...Thats it for the report, but now i'd like to tell my story of catching the pool fish...
It was gettin to the end of the trip and they were already cleaning fish and walking around askin for pool fish contenders.. i reeled my line up and threw the bait off and walked over to the bait bucket for 1 last chance at a fish so i decided id get a fresh piece of bait.. i found out that they put all the left over bait away already cuz they were gettin ready to go home.. i was like SHIET.. so i walked around the boat and found a piece of used bait that someone took off their line so i picked it up and put it on.. dropped my line down (no sinker.. thats how the trip was fished).. was down to 50 feet.. i hear *HONK HONK HONK* so it was time to go home but 50 feet wasnt where i was catchin them.. it was at 60-75 ft. so i was like im almost there let me just keep goin down.. 55 ft.. nothing... 60 ft.. BAM it hit me.. they started the 2nd engine ready to go so i decided to scream WAIT I GOT A FISH ON! everyone jus looked at me and gave me like some nasty look cuz i think i was also high hook on the boat ( not sure about that, but i think).. so im reeling as fast as i can... wen it gets near the boat it decides to run under the boat, so now im like SHIET again cuz i thought the motor was gonna cut my line.. but i keep pulling and it finally surfaces.. and instead of calling for the gaff i take my chances and just flip it onto the boat cuz on this same trip i had a fish about that big and was screamin GAFF GAFF, and by the time they came over it got off.. i finally slam it onto the deck of the boat and ppl were like "oh shiet thats the pool fish." When they put it on the scale it blew away the past pool winner.. pool was $75, i tipped the mates $30 cuz they also filleted my fish.. EXCELLENT NIGHT! im have to go again next week!
