Report: Took the day off and gave the Kilkenny Club Trout Tournament a try. Headed up to the Back River. Fished the flood gates for about an hour at the tide change. Plenty of boats buzzing around and causing havic amoung the fish. Ended up pulling hook and heading toward the ocean, fishing a couple of nice spots along the way. Caught some decent fish, but was looking for the BIG winner for the tournament. I put some money toward the big red event, hoping to get some notoriety for the business. We normally land plenty of big redfish. With a ton of luck, Capt. Randy hooked a monster that was 22.99999 inches to turn in. He looked like a 30 inch fish squashed into a legal sized 23" body. We figured we had a good chance with that fish at weigh-in. We continued to fish all around the area, ending up at the jetty. Put some trout and others in the cooler and headed back to the Marina. At last count, there were almost 40 teams in the contest. We ended up finishing first and taking home an envelope full of cash. Not too bad for a days work. We would have been on the water doing the same exact thing anyway, so it makes for a great day. The tournament was professionally ran, with a great turn out. I appreciate the honesty and level of professionalism that was put into it. Get out on the water, EVERYTHING is biting.
