Report:
Today was the best day by far for numbers, but they were all 5 to 6 pounders, considerably smaller than what we have been catching. But lots more of them. Again, all on grubs. When the tide was about 30 minutes from low tide (which I believe was 9:53 am at Egg Island) my wife and I started getting double hook ups. As soon as I would release, I'd hook up again. Then she'd release hers, and hook up again. For 40 minutes we caught them on every cast. When it backed off, I realized we were sitting on the bottom. So we kept casting, and catching. Not two at a time, but every few minutes one of us would hook up. 30 minutes later, water level allowed us to drift off. They were still biting as the tide came in, but we had to leave to go pick up some of her arriving family at the airport. This was how good the sight casting was today - I had to PROMISE my wife we would pull out at 10:00 am to be home and clean up before going after her brother at the airport. At 10:00 am, I told her what time it was. SHE kept saying a few minutes more!! One interesting note - when we got back to the ramp at Skidaway, my wife went into Bandy's to get some ice while I got the boat ready on the trailer. I heard her saying, "Oh my gosh!" She hollered at me to come take a look. The fellow that owns the place, or runs the place, had a snook in his cooler that was slightly over 18 pounds!! Said he caught it off Green Island on shrimp. It beats the state record by nearly 10 pounds! I'm sure everyone will see it in the papers coming up. My next fishing trip is with the in-laws. Hope it is as good as it has been recently.
