Report:
After catching literally dozens or hundreds of shorts, I have caught my limit each day in less than half an hour of legal
(+18 in in Ches Bay) rockfish in the 19-22 inch range right in the creek at my marina ! Total travel 1/8th of a mile ! Keys - 1)trolling speed 1.8 kts - honest 1.9 and1.7 no hits ! Casting use similar speed retrieve. 2) Lures 1/2 in white bucktail w red eyes NO hits on 3/4 oz lure of same type. Best lures Blue Back Chrome side orange belly Rattletrap in larger size and 4 - 6 inch Storm lures in of all things Rainbow Trout color ! The rockfish are feeding on large gizzard shad and white and yellow perch that are schooled up near, but not in, the creek's mouth. Ten days fishing, ten limits and lots of fun catch and release fishing with 10-30 fish per tide. Current MUST be running fairly strong. So far I've been the only boat fishing the area so it will be interesting to see if that continues - of course the cold weather could move the fish out at any time, but so far so fantastic!
Ray
