Report:
First day we were able to take the in-laws out. I was hesitant to do so because of the full moon, spring tide, 40 degree air temp, and stiff northeast wind. I just didn't know if we would find them - I knew we wouldn't be doing any sight casting. When we got up into the flats around 10:30 am (3 1/2 hours before low tide) I cruised over to a good oyster bed that was covered and had my father-in-law cast over to it. He immediately hooked up using a Terminator spinnerbait. I told my brother-in-law to cast in the same spot quickly, which he did and he hooked up. His was on a soft tail grub. All I could do was keep on the trolling motor to keep from being blown into the marsh, and they wrestled for about 10 minutes. Finally my father-in-law got his in, going 12 pounds, and my brother-in-law got his in going 8 pounds. We fished another oyster bed and got a 5 pounder with 4 spots on the tail. Then we only caught 4 more in the 5 pound range for the next 2 hours and one 17 inch trout. All in all we had 7 reds and one trout on a day I thought would be slow, but compared to what we've been doing, I guess it was pretty slow.
