Report:
We finally had a break from the cold weather so I tried to take the kids out to the Back River. We put in at Houlihan Bridge. We headed directly to the flood gates to set up to fish the incoming tide. While the tide was still slack we managed one double hook up on trout. We were using live (barely) shrimp. I was more concerned with getting my sons healthy 16-incher in the boat and as a result I lost mine. That was the end of our luck. As the tide turned back in we moved directly in front of the cement structures and hoped for some striped bass action. The few boats around us weren't having any luck that I could see either. Before the kids lost thier minds we headed back to Houlihan Bridge and fished jigs and live shrimp around the pilings. No luch there either. I would really like to catch one striped bass before I head back to Iraq.
Question: Around 3 miles upstream from the flood gates I routinely see many fish rolling near the southern bank. I can never see what they are. I think I actually hit one with my motor yesterday. They were rolling everywhere. There were no stumps and I was in 13' of water. The motor was fine. Does anyone have any idea what these are? (no, they are not manatees so don't call the police)
