Report:
What a Weekend~~~~The big Yellowfin come out of the deep to the Lump~~~

I was wearing my chef hat catering a party in Baton Rouge and the TUNA were catering to the anglers on the LUMP.

I was right in the middle of serving 500 people when my cell phone started to ring, first it was Al Rogers asking about one of my STRIKE ZONE boats that caught a BIG TUNA. The next call was a sports writer that I had never heard of wanting to know about the BIG TUNA. I had five calls from captains and friends about the BIG TUNA within five minutes. For being a very very small town -WORD spreads fast in VENICE.

I did not talk to the hero (Capt. Scott Leger) until 8:00pm that night to get the reel story. I then talked to the other hero (Deckhand Hunter Caballero). The last (but certainly not the least) hero was angler Anthony Taormina. He was elated -- all he could say was he wanted the same boat and crew next year for the VENICE MARINA TUNA TOURNAMENT.

I am so proud and happy for my crew --Capt. Scott Leger (the freshman captain in our fleet) and deckhand Hunter Caballero. Last year at this time Capt. Scott was a deckhand (even thought he had his captain license) under Capt. Charlie Durand. They worked the Lump everyday that the weather permitted. He started at the bottom and after a short year he is the captain of the vessel that catches the record breaking Yellowfin Tuna in the Gulf of Mexico and the State.

To catch any fish it is a team effort. It takes the Captain to get you to the right spots safe and sound. He has to run the boat in the right position and sometimes manuever the boat to catch the fish. The deckhand has to make sure that the tackle is in good condition, the chum never stops, the bait stays alive, and last but not least - the gaff gets into the fish. Now the poor angler - all he has to do is listen to two crew members yell at him and tell him what he is not doing right. Most of the commands are REEL,REEL,REEL,REEL. The other important members of the team are the friends of the angler fighting the fish. They have a big job abusing him during the fight. I have never heard an encouraging message from the other anglers. It is amazing what they say and do when that poor guy is fighting the fish. I am sure things were different on this record breaking Yellowfin. I WISH I WAS THERE.

I would like to congratulate the entire TEAM for their catch of the 240 lb 3oz record breaking Yellowfin Tuna.

There will be many records broken because of the limits of commercial fishing in the Gulf and more sport fisherman adventuring into the deep waters. YOU MAY BE NEXT

Good Fishing from TEAM STRIKE ZONE`~~~~~~225~279~3800
