Report:
I had a couple trips recently. Too bad I lost my camera somewheres. I did get the pics from one trip though. Had an overnighter on the twin vee with BradP and company from Texas. We started out chumming in about a three knot current which is always fun and sometimes productive. We were using the 6/0 blue frenzy hooks and a combo of skipjack and pogies for chum. At the first rig we tried we saw few yellowfin jumping and caught most of them real tight to the rig on chum. It was a pleasure to see some dolphin though as we caught three nice bulls there to add to our five yellowfin.
I decided to move to a different rig and see what was up and it was a little slow at first. We put two nice yellowtail snapper in the boat in 3500 feet of water which is unusual but not a first for me. Obviously they bit on chum. Just before dark we hit our big boy of around 100 pounds on a tiagra 30 with 60 pound leader and a piece of pogie.
Right at dark the fish started jumping everywhere and we casted poppers, frenzy flying fish, real flying fish, cedar plugs, white socks, and pieces of looseleaf paper. LOL The fish were hitting anythign and everything you put within 10 feet of them. We ended up the night with 14 yellowfin to 100 pounds, three dolphin to 20 pounds, and two nice yellowtails.
I fished the next day and the highligt was watching a 500 pound blue swim around our boat and catching a 110 pound yellowfin on chum. The fish were being super finicky though and werent in much of a mood to feed. I went out on a private boat yesterday for a half day trip as they wanted to sleep in. Left the dock at nine and started fishing at noon. Two hours later we had went three for four on 50 pound yellows. Caught one fish on a fire tiger mirrorlure, and caught the other two on a red/white naked seastar run way back off the rigger.
