Report:
Left the dock at 6:30 and headed to one of my close by “honey holes”. Dropped them down and caught 2 keeper stripers within 20 minutes. It died out and so we tried a couple other spots before heading to Block’s Southwest ledge. Nothing doing there at all. Several other charter boats were there, as well, and I saw no nets come out. Trolled many different depths and I marked very few fish so I told the charter that we were going to Montauk. 20 minutes later we were approaching Montauk’s Penfield Reef in pea soup fog when I spotted a couple of birds. When I looked at the water there were good-sized bass rolling all over the place. We dropped a swimming plug back and 9’ers on downriggers down 30 feet. We started hooking up immediately and everyone limited out with at least 20 bass to about 25 pounds released. A short 35 minute hop back to Westerly and filleting of fish. A great day except for the fog.
