Report: Caught the outgoing AM High Tide (around 7:00). Came out of Manasquan Inlet and saw nothing but Bunker jumping everywhere. Thought it was our day! We snagged a few bunker and tried chunking while also throwing metal, plugs, etc to see if there were any bluefish. Nada. Nothing under the bunker but dogfish sharks.
Decided to follow the bunker North after an hour or so of drifting between 35 and 50 foot deep waters with the dogfish trashing our bait and some rigs. Chased the bunker up to Belmar and the Shark River Inlet where we finally jumped into some cocktail blues in shallower waters.
No bass and no big blues. No birds and no real action either. I am guessing that with so many bunker it just isn't good enough to find them? I am pretty much a rookie out on the open water and wonder if anyone has suggested "holding" areas that may be active when the situation is like what we found?
