Report:
Nonstop action on the Kingfisher. July is notoriously a very hot month for us with live bait action for big striped bass. The Hickory Shad are here in full force and like clockwork the big stripers that follow them are here also. Wednesday brought out a return group from Springfield Mass. for a combo trip of stripers and fluke. Started out early and picked up plenty of Hickory Shad for bait and headed out to the reefs to drop them down. The stripers were there in full force, in about an hour and half the group limited out on stripers from 38” to 45”. Finished up the trip with a dozen keeper fluke from 2 to 6 pounds, half a dozen sharks, and a few pesky skates. Needless to say, a very happy group in deed. Thursday July 7th a group of guys came up from New Jersey to go after sharks. The strong winds forced them into an inshore trip that was a slammer. They had a blast catching Hickory Shad and an even better time catching Stripers. We used up the first bunch of shad in about 2 hours on some very nice bass and a few bluefish bite offs. Went back in and loaded up on shad again and hit another area where the stripers were stacked up like cordwood. Each drift produced bass from 38” to 44” and they put up fights like they were 50 pounders. A very healthy lot of bass indeed. The guys were a blast to fish with, hope they make it up this way again next year. Screamin’ drags to all, Capt. Scott
