Report: Fishing on the Choptank is gearing up. If you have the patience to put up with all the 17" fish you will be rewarded with the occasional 28-30 incher hiding below them. Metal jigs and "chuck tails" are the local favorites. Surface poppers are good but you will catch as many seagulls as fish! Breakers are all over the river on ebb tide and if you have local knowledge there are some big fish to be caught in the shallows around submerged structures. Shallows dictate surface poppers like Zara Super Spook in bone color or Storm 4" shad in just about any color. If you finf you are being "short struck" go to a 4" bass assasin in white or green.
