Report:
I went out around 7am and was surprised with the wind and chop.Having a center console I got sprayed on the way out south east of stellwagon looking for a few haddock. Even with the drift bags out I was moving way to fast and even had one wave break clear over my engine. It was really tough to tend bottom and even though I spotted many fish on the screen I came up empty.I did meet a new friend at the mouth of the harbor.Another fishermen like myself who was looking for groundfish like myself. He also was alone not being able to find a fishing partner as was my case as everyone wants me to call them and when I do they never seem to want to go lol.But Jim was eager like myself and together we followed each other out east of the bank keeping intouch by the vhf but I stopped a little short of a couple of spots that I had gotten my share of haddock because I was getting soaked by the spray and decided to fish where I was. Moving here and there over the nature preserve we both didnt have much luck and then Jim had said we should give Tillies a try and I found a hole on tillies where the depth went from around 200ft to about 350ft in about 200 hundred yards and man did I hit them as it was getting late afternoon and also the winds died down making it easy to tend bottom.I went home with some nice haddock, cod, cusk, and one that I had to look up on the internet it was a black hake also called a boston hake, mudhake, and white hake although it was neither as it seemed to be sort of white and silver or grayish with 2 long whiskers and cod head and a eel or cusk like body. Maybe someone who reads this article can set me straight.Anyway just when the bite was getting great the sun was getting lower and I had to put the pedal to the medal to get in lucky for me the seas and wind had died down but still when I got to the dock it was dark. But the good part is I met a friend who seemed to love the ocean as much as I do and hope to share our boats in the future that way it will be cheaper for the both of us to share our expenses {gas] and also enjoy the company. We followed each other in and then I went to the dock and he to the marina. It was good to have someone near in case of a emergency and I look forward to fishing with Jim again. well just droping a line to let anyone know what is going on out there as I have not been out to many times because all those hurricanes have gotten the seas a bit to rough for me with my 20.4 centerconsole even though it is called the no fear I still consider the ocean a non forgiving partner and I will always respect it. GOOD FISHING KEVIN PARRINGTON
