Report:
Made several mistakes this trip. First I did not check the tides and arrived at the river about 8:00pm during the low tide. The low tide makes the brackich water more fresh and less suitable for croaker. My next mistake was to assume I could purchase my bait locally. I went to walmart as well as several convienence stores and no one had frozen squid (my bait of choice this time of the year) or blood worms or squid flavored fish bites. I purchased a pack of fish bites blood worm and some previously frozen shrimp. I amused myself catching catfish until the hide tide came in, and sure enough in came the croaker. The fish would not take the fishbites at all. I wound up only catching four fish in two hours and all of them on the shrimp. The fish were all big croaker (about 16 inches each) I just wish I had caught more. Next time I will be better prepared but, it has been a while and I just couldnt wait to start catching croaker again.
