Report:
After a nice weather break for relaxation and rest (thanks Alberto) we got a break in the weather and enjoyed some darn good fishing middle part of last week all the way up ntil this morning..no more complaints about slow night yellowfin tuna trips that for sure...its been too much too quickly to be honest..as fast as you can get a bait out, hook and reel them..its been unfair advantage toward the humans and sweet revenge for previous attemepts..we have actually had to pace ourselves..it all started last Wednesday with a 3 boat armada leaving Venice for points south..after a decent day of trolling which has been yeilding its share of dolphin and wahoo we took our vengience out on the yellowfin..I had eight 40-60 pounders in 90 minutes and with 4 anglers we decided to head north to look for bottom fish..Scott and Leon had the Vincent group from Lake Charles hanging in long enough to add 15 yellowfin to the box and a mix of blacks while Bill's boat took 13 yellows before halting..we all met up on the shelf about midnight looking to slam some bottomfish..didnt really happen aside from Amberjacks and the sharks are another story..couldnt get through them..I ended way up in West Delta catching and releasing bull reds by daylight and finding absolutley ZERO red snapper..very odd..Bill and I headed in early while the Vincent mob added a few more wahoo to the box including a 60 pounder.Lance has also been slamming the yellowfin to the west..absolutely stupid numbers too and without pictures I wont even give the numbers..he had his limit before midnight both trips this week adding at least 3 wahoo and 3 bulls and a limit of jacks to the box by quitting time..One customer actually joked about having to put fish into his drink box..Scott L. ran another night trip last night keeping 12 yellows and 6 blacks on a strictly tuna only hunt..Day trips have been interesting as well..plenty bull dolphin..we had been averging at least 3 bulls per trip this week, until it got busy by this weekend pushing the avg take to 1..my boat managed to tag and release a white marlin Friday while also keeping on the dolphin average..finally got some tags from NMFS this month and actually remembered to bring them on the boat..hadn't manually tagged a fish in some time so I guess I will go rummaging through old gear to find the old marlin giggin' stick..Sonny had an interesting trip with the NOAA TAO Bouy crew..they launched a new bouy this month and when they went out to service it Thuirsday they found it holding 10 bull dolphin, a dozen snake wahoo, one triple tail and a blue marlin..no fishing allowed on ths trip although a triple tail had to be removed from a crevisse it had wedged itself into..it did go into the drink box for safe keeping..Sonny got some good pictures of the dolphin schooling..he was hit an miss on his day tuna trips this week..one day on them the next day off..pictures reflect the success rates..still waiting on some..of the six overnight trips run this week the take has been right at 80 yellowfin with really no more than 6 hours of fishing time required..hopefully the barometer for the rest of the season one which I would consider to have been slow-starting up to this point...Paradise Outfitters - 985-845-8006 local or 1-888-FISHWUS toll free
