Report:
Spent last week vacationing at Fripp. The public ramp on the Storey River is first class. Hats off to the state of SC for great facilities. Fished the grass flats on the Morgan and Harbor Rivers in the evening early in the week when the tides were around seven feet. On most of the trips saw several reds tailing and managed to hook and release several on the flyrod. Fished the high tide at noon later in the week but saw reds tailing only in the tall grass and couldn't get a good presentation to them with the fly or the gold spoon that my son was casting. Fished the low tides in Trenchards Inlet and Storey River several times during the week but didn't catch any reds on cut or live bait. Caught and released several large black tip, bonnet head sharks and rays that ate live mullet on my tarpon rigs. On the way home to NC my trailer blew a tire at 70mph on interstate 95 in Florence, SC. Fortunately I was able to pull off without incident onto the median strip. Shortly afterward the SCDOT Incident Response truck pulled up and changed my tire in a jiffy. Once again hats off to the State of SC (and responder Steve Berry) for a job well done and a great program. Hope to make it back down there soon. This site in the past had great reports. Why such a shortage now?
