Report:
Left Westerly @7 am and by 8:45 dropped them in just west of the horns. Water temps from 73 almost everywhere to an occassional 76 and I heard some chatter about 78 nearby also. After lines in for 10 minutes at 9 knots, an ourigged 50 goes off and line is peeling like mad. Loosened drag a bit and saw the white marlin jumpo at what looked like a half mile away. Cleared lines and started to back down as the line was peeling fast. Gained on the fish and after about 20 minutes I leadered him to the swim platform and I was about to grab the bill, the hook broke at the ring and he flopped back to the sea. Caught on a pink 6 inch tuna clone behind a bird. Brand new lure with shiny hook. Oh well, we got some great pix and it was exciting. Only knockdown all day for us. First white on the Reel Steal. Captain Jim
