Report:
It was our first venture out codfishing this spring. Finally, the weather cooperated as did the regulations (April 1 was Day 1 of our open season for Cod). The weather was perfect, 5 mph winds from the SW blew us out there and 5 mph winds from the SE blew us home. We fished out of Plymouth and had a great ride through the harbor. It was great to be back on the water and the boat did great--it also looked great, cloaked in wine-red truck-liner paint.

The fishing started off with a bang with haddock coming over quickly in 195' of water. As it was my first day on the water and I was fishing with two friends, I didn't want to stay in one place for too long. My goal was to have fun and make notes of where the fish were/weren't. I took notes and moved along. Fishing in deep water on a rockpile, I wanted to try for a wolffish or two. We just ended up there with a pile of cusk on the edge of the pile and two of the largest redfish I've ever seen once we hit the 300' mark.

Moving back to 230' of water, we hit a school of 26" cod that were all cookie cutters. We had almost 20 fish in the boat without a short. I liked seeing that. It was a small school, or it was in a tight area that we hit repeatedly. Great day on the water

There was a pile of boats fishing the eastern edge of the Bank in 150-160' of water. I shyed away from them for fear of being a copy-cat. There were plenty of fish out there!

For those of you who don't know me, I run a charter boat from Southeast Mass. and specialize in 1-4 person charters (although I can, and do, take up to 6 customers.) Please visit my website at www.blackrosefishing.com for more info on me and my charters.

Sincerely, Capt. Rich Antonino Black Rose Fishing Charters 508-269-1882
