Report:
Surf fishermen here. We started at the Bogue Inlet end of Emerald Isle at 0900 hrs, first the shallows, then the inlet. Got a 6" spot, a 6" blue, and a 40" wingspan skate, all tossed back. A neighbor got a just-legal 15.5 inch flounder.
At 1330 hrs, moved to Ft. Fisher, walked past the jetty (with a swell beach pull-cart, makes it so much easier!). There, the surf was good and wooley, as you'd expect. Got a 6" spot and a 6" blue, tossed back. A neighbor got what appeared (from a distance) to be a 3-foot blue? And it was said that someone else got a 19" flounder, but I didn't see it, so don't believe it.
About 9 dolphins were patrolling back and forth to the right of the jetty (right were we were) and scared some fish right out of the water, one a flying fish, about 20 inches long, that flew almost right into me as I waded in the shallows, then it dove in, then jumped right back up and flew back out. Was a cool wildlife show.
We used fresh shrimp and cut squid tubes, mostly on flounder rigs, got the skate on a shorty hopkins red devil spoon.
