Ok guys and gals this is a tip and not a joke. I have never heard of this and never tried it before this trip but it definitely made the trip a success. The day bite was off the water was very high. There was no bait to be found during the day. We caught several small trout on the dropff during the day and that was it. However, the night bite under the lights was definitely ON! Live bait was definitely better than the artificial or glow worms/trouts rigs. Pumpkinseed grubs if you want to try but live bait is a no brainer. Anyway, we used live shrimp (a large dip net is a must). They worked ok but the smaller trout seemed to get to them first. This is the part that is hard to beleive! I noticed the trout were hammering needlenosed gar so I decided to try one. This is no joke, out of about 70 keeper trout and one red brought back to the cleaning table, at least 50 were caught on gar from 4"-8" long. They were hammering them! Free line them with a hook only and cast into the shadows. Let the wind/tide carry the bait into the light and you will get bit!
