Report:
I got down here about 2:30 yesterday afternoon and headed out for the Point right after I got the car unpacked. Things were pretty quiet when I got there with maybe 20 fishermen wetting a line and a lot of onlookers. The water seemed to be about 70 and the wind was out of the south at about 8 mph.
On the first cast I hooked into a 10 lb blue within a minute. And that pretty much set the pace for the rest of the evening (although it probably cost me a big drum.) All told I caught 8 big blues ranging from about 6 lbs to maybe 12, and two puppy drum. The blues were pretty tough on my equipment and I lost multiple rigs. On my last cast of the evening I hooked into a big drum that I never got under control --- after about two minutes of it just making run after run the leader parted near the just above the rig. I think that was due to the repeated stress of the blue fish. Always like to think I'm pretty good about checking the leader for fraying but I guess I need to do better.
Other fishermen did much better then me. I saw numerous bluefish and quite a few big drum taken. Also a lot of sandshark.
Remeber to let the Secretary of the Interior (try webteam@ios.doi.gov
) and the National Park Service (use the form at webteam@ios.doi.gov
know that you want to keep access to the National Seashore open for everyone.
And remember to let Toyota know you don't appreciate their support of environmental groups that are trying to close access to the beach!
