Report: Today I found out that your allowed to hike out to the Point as long as you keep beyond the last red markers of the restricted area. On a calm day like today this was pretty easy, but I wouldn't recommend it at high tide with a bigger swell.
When I first got out to the point (about 6 PM) there were about 10 people fishing and gathering shells. But the crowd pretty much cleared out by 7 PM leaving it to me and the birds. And thats when the fishing got interesting. The little blue fish turned on as the sun started to go down and a piece of bait would only sit about 30 seconds without a little blue hitting it. Unfortunately that pretty much summarizes the rest of the evening too. Nothing over 3 pounds and most of them were less then 1.
Just a quick observation on the NPS closures. I was there the afternoon they shut access to the Point. I couldn't help but notice that the area they orginally used to restrict access it totally open now. I guesss the birds didn't nest there.
Remember to thank the Audubon Society closing down access to Cape Point and the next time your thinking about buying a new card remember Toyota sponsors them.
