Report:
I stopped in Bay Head this A.M. to check out the surf. It was still there! With a new found confidence, I watched the sun come up and scanned the ocean for any sign of life. Some terns were diving in the trough and a dolphin (porpoise) was cruising about 200 yds. out. Once the sun came up, so did the bunkers. Many pods were visible from where I stood on the dunes. All of the pods were from 200 yds. to a half mile out. The ocean was so calm, I could see them out even farther.
I did not see a thing bothering all of those pods of bait. When I saw a small splash just over the bar, I started throwing a popper. A small bluefish chased that big pencil popper until he ate it. A few more casts produced the same results and then it was over. I was happy to catch something on a beautiful morning like today.
There was no knowing how the boats were doing, but there were a lot of them out today with most of them south of the inlet. I did talk to another fisherman who had fished the canal this A.M. and caught the same small blues that have been around for a month. One other observation.......the Gambler and the Norma K were railed but the Voyager, just across the street, did not sail because they couldn't muster any fishermen.
What's up with the Voyager?
