Report:
With the weather keeping most people at home and with the "can't miss" fishing reports about livelining bunkers, we tried for the afternoon bite. Tried is the optimum word! The bunkers were around but only popped up a few times. There was nothing on any of the schools we saw. Spotting them was hard with the chop from the SE breeze and the rain made it even more difficult.

There were readings on our machine of some small bait balls down deep and a few spots where we marked a gamefish or two but no one was hungry. One school of bunkers was active very briefly and we watched one bunker skittering across the surface. My guess was that it had its tail bitten by a bluefish. I saw no swirl, just a bunker swimming for his life, half out of the water. With no action in sight, we left to dry off. So much for the reports about the "afternoon bite". We just were not lucky enough to be in the right spot at the right time.

The wreck outside of the inlet was being patrolled by a towboat. There was a red beacon on the buoy that marked where the boat went down. There was also a small fuel slick being pushed toward the inlet. Also, there must have been at least six rescue craft speading toward Shark River to assist in the rescue efforts of the plane that went down.

Today, Sunday, was a no go. It was just too foggy, even with radar. I heard on the radio that one of the bluefish boats coming out of the Broadway Basin in Point Pleasant, lost the chanel for a minute and hit the mud. It backed off and kept going. It could have been the C..k Robin! Another friend who did get out, said he was doing a number on the seabass to the south. I prefer seeing and being seen while I'm on the water.....even with radar!

You're kind of day Foggy! By the way, there are peanut bunkers in the river. I threw a cast net on some today off our dock!
