Report:
The FinFun crew was joined today by my daughter who is in from Houston. We were one of the first boats at the Mud Buoy today and had the pick of the high bottom pieces before the fleet arrived. There were boats from N.Y. and N.J. all around. The Golden Eagle was anchored a short distance off our bow. At first, there was little current and the chum went straight down. We did pick a few blues regardless of the lack of current. Once the current picked up, it was non-stop action with blues up to 12# on our scale. The water was remarkably clear. We could see the bottom in 38' of water.

Until the fish settled in, we had to use mono leaders tied directly to the hooks to coax a bite. Once they were behind us, we went back to short wire leaders. My daughter really had the touch today and handled herself very well on some very fiesty blues. My 85 year old mother-in-law was cranking them in as fast as she could get a bait in the water. My wife was giving her Shimano Trevala rod a workout too. The ladies gave my son and I a workout as we unhooked fish after fish for them as we tried to get a bait in the water ourselves.

We left them biting at noon and headed in. All fish were released. An interesting note was the amount of seabass that were under the boat. During the early lulls, I dropped a line over with a small squid strip and dropped and reeled in 10" seabass with every drop. I could actually see my bait on the bottom in 38'. With so much clean water, I expected to see some false albacore or bonito but that was not the case.

If you like light tackle bluefishing, get out there now! It's better than it ever was! The fleet at the "Rocks" seemed to do just as well. Go catch 'em!
