Report:
This morning, we made a right hand turn and trolled Clark spoons for macs, bones, and alberts all the way to Walsh's house....nothing. We trolled both along the surf and offshore.
We then headed to the lumps off spring lake.
One of our questions was whether the draggers had hit our favorite lump (Foggy's lump). Our first drift over the lump indicated that the draggers went elsewhere as we boated both legal and short fluke. Since there were no boats in the area, I tossed over a marker buoy as opposed to using my GPS. This I never do but it made returning to the specific area much quicker. Every time we'd pass slightly inshore of the buoy, we'd hook another fluke. Most legal fluke were in the 20-24 inch range. Only one skate and one sea robin messed with our baits. The most effective bait combination was squid and sand eel on a hook dressed with white bucktail.
Didn't see any birds diving nor and game fish pushing bait. No matter, it was a good way to end the 2008 fluke season.
By the way, in going down the river towards the inlet, I asked three boats between the railroad bridge and the inlet what they were catching. All three boats responded that they were catching short fluke. I didn't see any nets between Clarks and the inlet.
Finally, I got a report that some weakfish were being caught at dawn and dusk at the Rt#70 bridge. Thought I'd pass this along.
